Age: 28 Occupation: IT Professional (Systems Administrator) What is your greatest 'adventure' (or extreme sports) achievement? Why? Last weekend I completed the Forster Half GeoQuest, 100km Adventure Race starting at the Barrington Tops and finishing in the Myall Lakes, going straight for over 27 hours Rogaining, Mountain Biking Kayaking and Rafting. This is my biggest achievement so far as it is the longest distance and time I have ever competed in and represents the last couple of months worth of training, not to mention nothing else I have ever done has left me muscle sore this many days running! What do you believe will be your strongest leg & why; trail run, mountain bike, 4WD, poker? Mountain bike I think will be my strongest event, as this represents the activity I enjoy the most and train the hardest / compete in most of the time. Not to mention I have just upgraded some of the components on my bike so I will need to justify the financial outlay by winning more often with it. On a scale of 1 to 10 how would you rate your current level of fitness? On the assumption that 1 is Bert Newton and 10 is Kieran Perkins I will have to put myself at 7. I am definitely above average fitness, but I am also more inclined to relax with some of the less energetic vices in life than an Olympic athlete too. Why did you enter the Men's Challenge? It sounded like an absolute blast! All the events to compete in describe what I try to spend my all spare time doing and I would rate myself and enthusiastic competitive amateur for all of them. I know then that I would be able to at least give the other guys a run for their money and maybe get a good story out of it as well. If you were forced to give up all your gadgets bar one, what would it be and why? If I was going to keep anything out of my gadgets it would be the iPhone. The reason being as I am confident I could then use the internet on it to track down the person who took the other gadgets, presumably selling them on eBay and various other sites and get then get them all back! What would you cook a woman to impress her on a first date? Chilli Mussels, why you ask? Well Seafood will always impress and it has the advantage of being suitable for the ladies who consider themselves boarder line vegetarians who will still do seafood. If she don't like Chilli in this case, you can leave them out and it becomes Mussels Marinara. It is also a dish that can be prepared by two if you want to share the activity, or quick enough to do by yourself. It goes well with a red or white wine so you're able to go with her preference and is light enough for the calorie conscious. The flavours (the chilli in particular) also make a great lead in for dessert, something like a Dark Chocolate Gelato with Orange slices compliments well. What's the most fun you've had on four wheels? Keeping it PG for the kiddies, it would undoubtedly have to be in a demo run of the new Australian Army Bushmaster. The features of that machine were phenomenal and its ability to traverse all terrain really did impress, even fording water, going literally "through" bush, over road gutters and soft soils you could hardly even tell there were bumps or loss of speed and traction, not to mention you can mount armaments to it, has automatic tyre inflation and traction adjustment, its own air-con, water supply and NBC resistant, what could you possibly need in a vehicle? What are you thinking about when you've got your poker face on? I try to think about music, specifically instrumental music; the lack of words helps to focus and lets you set a rhythm to what you're thinking. Once that is done I look for tells in the other player, false reservations or exaggerated bravado to indicate they are try to misdirect, whilst also ensuring that I don't have any tells of my own. Who is your favourite superhero and why? Ironman would have to be my favourite superhero for two reasons. The fact that he is an ordinary person, without a squeaky clean past, who has everyday vices and fears yet still is able to use his skills and abilities to overcome challenges means he is easier to relate to that one who just has some magic like power. Also a superhero who works on principles or a sense of duty rather than for a perceived morale good is less likely to be corruptible, blackmailed or caught in an ethical dilemma. Secondly, the fact that he is essentially a gadget loving, fast car enthusiast with a perchance for flying around in an armoured suit, I think resonates with a whole section of geeky society. What does confidence mean to you? My definition would be; being able to project an assuredness about a topic or thing that leaves others in no doubt as to your abilities or knowledge on the outcome. Being able to be confident is definitely something I find is required more and more often as you go through life and find yourself in greater positions of responsibility and it is a fine line to walk between confidence and arrogance. Personally I find projecting confidence in team environments a lot easier as a mediocre decision now is often better than the best decision to late, however I have never taken this to the extent of asking the pretty girl at bar if she would like a drink when her 200Kg bodybuilding boyfriend is right next to her. Do you have any career aspirations? God Emperor of the world would be ultimately where I want to end up. In the mean time however I am looking to move into a managerial role, leading a team of people to achieve outcomes and helping them develop professionally is something that I really enjoy. The aspect of IT management that requires tactical and strategic planning to assist with business requirements is always invigorating and making these two things work together *always* provides an interesting challenge. |
