The Men's Challenge Event
The three challenges were created to pit the confidence, can-do spirit and mental and physical fitness of the finalists against each other on one action-packed day.

Challenge 1: Trail Race - Bike/Run The event: This two-part race show-cased running, navigation and mountain-biking skills. Contestants started with a 1km run and were then given a map directing them to 5 markers placed to ensure they had to navigate steep slopes, dense bush and river crossings to collect five items before returning to the staging area. They were ranked in finishing order and allocated points accordingly. The 800m mountain-bike course was packed with obstacles, including steep slopes, water-crossings and difficult surfaces. The event was a sudden-death elimination a lap at a time, until the final two riders faced off. Points were allocated according to finishing positions. Rundown: Both the run and bike courses were packed with obstacles, making an extreme event of it. The markers caused trouble for some competitors. And the steep slope on the mountain-bike course was the scene of many falls. |

Challenge 2: 4WD Rally
The event: The finalists competed on a 2km 4 x 4 course in a Nissan X-Trail. The course included six gated obstacles. Points were awarded for each gate negotiated without touching either of the two upright posts that made up each gate. Rundown: This was not a beginner’s course and all competitors drove with experienced navigator Robert Emmins who was in charge of assessing each driver’s ability. |

Challenge 3: Texas Hold'em Poker
The event: All five finalists played a 30-minute game of Texas Hold ‘em poker (using chips as currency). After a jam-packed day of physical challenges, it was time to put their card-playing and bluffing skills on the line. Rundown: A final round was played at the 30 minute mark, with players ranked based on the number of chips they held at the completion of the final hand. At the game’s end, Greg and Paul were tied on points meaning they’d have to take part in a tiebreaker run to decide the day’s overall winner. |
